Beijing, November 26, 2024 – The Europe Today: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto in Beijing on Tuesday, focusing on deepening bilateral cooperation and fostering a healthy, stable China-EU relationship.
The discussions highlighted the historic elevation of bilateral ties to an all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership in May, marking a new chapter in the China-Hungary relationship. Minister Wang emphasized Hungary’s pioneering role as the first European country to sign a cooperation agreement with China under the Belt and Road Initiative. He noted that the results of practical cooperation between the two nations have been fruitful, underlining the importance of mutual respect, trust, and support in achieving successful economic collaboration.
Wang also expressed hope that the new European Union institutions would continue to embrace the cooperative spirit of China-EU relations, viewing China’s development with objectivity, and pursuing a positive and pragmatic policy toward China to ensure the sustained growth of the China-EU partnership.
Minister Szijjarto reaffirmed Hungary’s commitment to expanding and enhancing cooperation with China in various sectors, including facilitating personnel exchanges and strengthening cultural ties. He underscored Hungary’s support for peace and an international system based on mutual respect, stating Hungary’s readiness to work with China to promote global peace and stability. Szijjarto also expressed his country’s dedication to advancing positive and healthy relations between the EU and China.
