Swakopmund, January 6, 2025 – The Europe Today: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, currently on a week-long diplomatic tour across Africa, affirmed China’s commitment to working with Namibia to advance the implementation of the 10 partnership actions proposed at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit. Wang made these remarks during a meeting with Namibia’s President Nangolo Mbumba in Swakopmund on Monday.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, expressed China’s readiness to support Namibia in its modernization efforts and to deepen cooperation in various sectors. He highlighted that China has always been a trustworthy friend to Africa, and emphasized that Chinese foreign ministers traditionally begin their year-long overseas visits with trips to African nations, underscoring the importance of the relationship.
“China will strengthen exchanges of experience in state governance with Namibia, expand cooperation in key areas such as infrastructure, digital economy, energy, agriculture, and education, and guide our bilateral relations toward common development,” said Wang.
President Mbumba, for his part, reaffirmed Namibia’s firm stance on the one-China policy and expressed the country’s eagerness to enhance inter-party cooperation with China. Reflecting on his previous visit to China for the FOCAC Beijing Summit, Mbumba reiterated Namibia’s commitment to actively implementing the outcomes of the summit. He emphasized the country’s intention to take practical measures to expand cooperation in the agreed-upon fields, with a focus on improving the well-being of the people in both nations.
On the same day, Wang also met with Namibia’s President-elect, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, to further discuss ways to strengthen bilateral ties and deepen mutual cooperation.
Wang’s visit to Namibia is part of a broader diplomatic tour, which includes stops in the Republic of the Congo, Chad, and Nigeria, reaffirming China’s ongoing commitment to fostering stronger ties and cooperation across the African continent.
