Indonesia and Pakistan to Strengthen Cooperation in Key Sectors: Kadin Chairman Anindya Bakrie

Jakarta, January 12, 2025 – The Europe Today: The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Chairman, Anindya Bakrie, emphasized four priority sectors for enhancing cooperation with Pakistan—food security, energy security, health, and defense—during a meeting with Pakistani Ambassador to Indonesia, Ameer Khurram Rathore.

“We sat together to discuss how Indonesia and Pakistan can work more closely,” Bakrie stated on Saturday. He highlighted Pakistan’s significant strengths in defense, health, agriculture, and energy as key areas for collaboration.

Bakrie also revealed plans for trade missions and expos from both countries in August, viewing these initiatives as a promising step toward stronger bilateral relations. Kadin is preparing to collaborate with its Pakistani counterpart to facilitate these activities and boost trade ties.

“These two countries are developing nations. Enhancing economic cooperation is not only about strengthening their respective economies but also about creating new trade opportunities. Indonesia values Pakistan as a key partner in expanding market access,” Bakrie added.

The cooperation aims to benefit businesses of all sizes, including micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), to ensure shared growth.

Ambassador Rathore emphasized the strong religious and cultural ties between the two countries, which provide a solid foundation for developing robust trade and business relations. “With the leadership of Kadin, we hope to foster better trade relations and focus on key sectors,” Rathore said.

Data from Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that Indonesia enjoyed a trade surplus with Pakistan between January and November 2024, with exports reaching US$3.04 billion, compared to imports worth US$529 million.
