Islamabad, January 27, 2025 – The Europe Today: His Excellency Atadjan Movlamov, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Pakistan, briefed the Pakistani media on Turkmenistan’s significant initiative during the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Turkmenistan proposed the General Assembly resolution titled “International Year of Peace and Trust, 2025”, which was unanimously adopted with the co-sponsorship of 86 countries.
Ambassador Movlamov emphasized that dialogue is the cornerstone of peace and highlighted the importance of cultural dialogues in promoting harmony. He elaborated that the resolution reflects the philosophy of new international relations, “Dialogue is a Guarantee of Peace,” introduced by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
The Ambassador further stated that “The International Year of Peace and Trust, 2025” aligns with the practical implementation of the “Pact for the Future,” adopted in September 2024 at the “Summit of the Future” convened under the UN Secretary-General’s initiative. The year’s activities will culminate in a major international forum in December 2025, which will also commemorate the International Day of Neutrality and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Permanent Neutrality.
Ambassador Movlamov acknowledged the current complexities in international relations marked by bloc confrontations, civilizational challenges, and their impact on multilateral cooperation. He stressed that Turkmenistan remains committed to addressing global challenges, including sustainable development, equitable resource distribution, food security, poverty alleviation, and climate change.
The Ambassador reiterated Turkmenistan’s focus on joint efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by creating viable and long-term geoeconomic models.
The press briefing concluded with a detailed Q&A session, covering topics such as Turkmenistan’s progress, Turkmen-Afghan relations, mutual business opportunities between Turkmenistan and Pakistan, and advancements in the TAPI gas pipeline project.
