Rome, March 3, 2025 – The Europe Today: Abat Fayzullayev, Uzbekistan’s first Ambassador to Malta with residence in Rome, has officially presented his credentials to President of Malta, Myriam Spiteri Debono, UzA reported.
During the meeting, both parties discussed prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly within international organizations such as the United Nations (UN) and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). President Debono highlighted the growing engagement between the two nations and praised Uzbekistan’s open and pragmatic foreign policy.
Diplomatic ties between Uzbekistan and Malta have seen significant development in recent years. In September 2024, the Foreign Ministers of both countries held their first bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. Further strengthening relations, Malta appointed its first Ambassador to Uzbekistan in January 2025, with residence in Moscow, and the two nations held their first round of foreign ministry consultations in Valletta.
Ambassador Fayzullayev has been serving as Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Italy since November 2023 and is also the country’s Permanent Representative to international organizations in Rome, including the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). Additionally, since December 2024, he has been accredited as Uzbekistan’s first Ambassador to Cyprus. Previously, from 2020 to 2023, he led Uzbekistan’s Embassy in Austria while concurrently serving as Ambassador to Hungary and Permanent Representative to the OSCE and other international organizations in Vienna.
This latest diplomatic development marks another step in enhancing Uzbekistan’s global partnerships and expanding its international presence.
