Indonesia and France to Strengthen Cooperation in Creative and Digital Economy

Jakarta, March 27, 2025 – The Europe Today: Indonesia and France have agreed to strengthen collaboration in the creative and digital economy, marking a key focus of their bilateral economic cooperation, Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono announced on Wednesday.

Following a meeting with French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noel Barrot, in Jakarta, Sugiono emphasized the commitment of both nations to develop a robust digital economy ecosystem, which will include training programs for creative talents, particularly in the film industry.

Expanding Digital and Investment Cooperation

Minister Sugiono expressed optimism about expanding joint projects between Indonesia and France in the creative and digital sectors, offering training opportunities and cooperation access to young digital talents.

He highlighted the creative economy as a key sector for further development through French investment, which is also expected in renewable energy, critical minerals, logistics, transportation, and green infrastructure.

Additionally, the bilateral partnership will extend to energy transition, food security, defense, digital transformation, and cultural relations.

Rising French Investment in Indonesia

Sugiono noted that French investment in Indonesia reached $328 million in 2024, and he expressed hope that this figure will continue to grow, bringing concrete benefits to both nations.

Beyond economic ties, the ministers also discussed defense cooperation, regional stability, and broader diplomatic engagements.

The meeting also included discussions on French President Emmanuel Macron’s upcoming state visit to Indonesia, scheduled for May 2025.
