Samarkand, April 4, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, during his working visit to Uzbekistan, held a meeting with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Odile Renaud-Basso, in the city of Samarkand on Thursday. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the first “Central Asia – European Union” summit, as reported by Turkmenistan’s official media.
In the course of the talks, President Berdimuhamedov reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to enhancing international economic cooperation, particularly through its engagement with leading global financial institutions. He underlined the importance of the country’s longstanding and constructive partnership with the EBRD, noting its tangible contribution to Turkmenistan’s economic development.
EBRD President Renaud-Basso commended Turkmenistan’s progress in economic modernization and reiterated the Bank’s interest in deepening collaboration. The two sides discussed expanding cooperation across key sectors including energy, transportation, and the digital economy—areas seen as pivotal to Turkmenistan’s sustainable growth strategy.
Founded in 1991 by 40 countries and two international organizations, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development currently operates in 34 countries. The Bank began its activities in Turkmenistan in 1992 and has since supported a range of development initiatives across the country.
The meeting underscored the mutual interest in strengthening ties and fostering new opportunities for economic cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EBRD in line with shared development priorities.
