Baku, April 22, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has emphasized the expanding strategic cooperation between Azerbaijan and China within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), noting that substantial progress has already been achieved in this domain.
In an exclusive interview with China’s Xinhua News Agency, President Aliyev underlined the importance of Azerbaijan’s geographic and logistical position in facilitating regional and intercontinental connectivity.
“We are expanding our cooperation with China within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. Significant progress has already been made in this direction,” President Aliyev stated.
He further noted that Azerbaijan is actively enhancing its role as a key transit hub by investing in the modernization of its transport and logistics infrastructure.
“Leveraging its advantageous geographical location, Azerbaijan continues to extensively develop international transport corridors, create modern infrastructure, and invest additional funds in increasing their capacity in response to the sharp increase in cargo traffic through our territory,” he added.
The Belt and Road Initiative, spearheaded by China, aims to strengthen global trade and infrastructure connectivity. Azerbaijan, situated at the crossroads of East and West, has emerged as a vital partner in facilitating transcontinental trade routes, particularly through the development of the Middle Corridor and other major transport projects.
President Aliyev’s remarks underscore Azerbaijan’s commitment to deepening its economic and strategic ties with China, while reinforcing its position as a regional transportation and logistics leader.
