Tashkent, May 1, 2025 – The Europe Today: On April 30, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a comprehensive presentation detailing the establishment of Al-Khwarizmi University, a major educational initiative in the city of Urgench, aimed at advancing Uzbekistan’s academic and technological development.
The initiative follows the President’s directive issued in August 2022 to construct the Al-Khwarizmi Campus in Urgench. The campus will include a university and a specialized school, both named in honor of the renowned scholar Muhammad al-Khwarizmi, a native of the Khorezm region and a foundational figure in mathematics and science.
During the presentation, detailed plans for the development of the educational institutions were unveiled. Al-Khwarizmi University will comprise three core faculties: Mathematics and Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence. These faculties are designed to train highly skilled specialists for priority sectors including economics, information technology, industry, national security, energy, and environmental protection.
Academic instruction will be delivered in both Uzbek and English, using a credit-modular system that reflects international educational standards. The university’s academic model will be based on the successful experience of New Uzbekistan University and implemented in partnership with leading universities from the United Arab Emirates, the People’s Republic of China, and the United Kingdom.
Student admissions are expected to begin in the 2025–2026 academic year, with an anticipated enrollment ranging between 4,000 and 6,000 students. The campus will also host a branch of the Muhammad al-Khwarizmi School, originally based in Tashkent. This specialized school will admit students on a competitive basis after completing the fourth grade, with the final two years of study dedicated to foundational engineering training.
President Mirziyoyev underscored the importance of ensuring that the new university campus not only serves as a hub for academic excellence but also integrates the rich historical, scientific, and tourism heritage of the Khorezm region. A formal document has been signed, authorizing the creation of these advanced educational institutions.
The establishment of Al-Khwarizmi University marks a significant step in Uzbekistan’s broader effort to modernize its higher education system and prepare a new generation of professionals equipped to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving global landscape.
