White House-Brokered Talks Yield Three-Week Ceasefire Extension Between Israel and Lebanon

Lebanon

Washington, April 24, 2026 – The Europe Today: Israel and Lebanon have agreed to extend their ongoing ceasefire by three weeks following high-level talks at the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday.

According to Trump, senior representatives from both countries met in the Oval Office with key U.S. officials, including Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, and U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, President Trump described the meeting as productive, stating that it “went very well,” and confirmed that the temporary truce between Israel and Lebanon would be extended by three weeks.

The extension comes as the initial 10-day ceasefire, brokered last week, was nearing its expiration. The agreement is expected to provide additional time and space for diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation and a more durable resolution.

The development reflects ongoing international efforts, led by the United States, to maintain stability and prevent further escalation between the two neighboring countries.
