Hanoi

Hanoi, April 27, 2026 – The Europe Today: Tourism in Hanoi recorded robust growth during the first four months of 2026, with total visitor arrivals reaching 12.14 million and tourism revenue climbing to VNĐ50.86 trillion (US$1.92 billion), marking year-on-year increases of 20.9 per cent and 22.8 per cent respectively, according to the municipal Department of Tourism.

The strong performance underscores sustained momentum ahead of major public holidays, as the Vietnamese capital advances strategic initiatives aimed at attracting more than 12 million international visitors by 2030.

In April alone, Hà Nội welcomed approximately 3.09 million visitors, reflecting a 13.3 per cent rise compared to the same period in 2025. Domestic travellers accounted for the majority, reaching 2.31 million, up 15.7 per cent, while international arrivals totaled 780,140, an increase of 6.9 per cent. Tourism revenue for the month was estimated at VNĐ12.65 trillion (US$479.9 million), up 11.2 per cent year on year.

The city continues to maintain a substantial accommodation network, comprising 3,761 establishments offering over 71,000 rooms. Among these, 66 hotels and serviced apartments hold one- to five-star ratings. Average occupancy rates in April approached 70 per cent, rising by more than three percentage points compared to the previous year.

Additionally, 61 establishments providing dining, shopping, entertainment, and wellness services have met standards for serving tourists, enhancing the overall visitor experience and supporting increased tourist inflows.

Hà Nội’s travel sector remains expansive, with nearly 2,000 international tour operators, over 500 domestic firms, and thousands of licensed tour guides, reflecting the city’s growing capacity to cater to diverse market demands.

According to Đặng Hương Giang, Director of the municipal Department of Tourism, the sector is actively implementing measures to improve service quality and sustainability. As part of its tourism stimulus and long-term development strategy, the city has introduced a range of distinctive tourism products under the theme “Green Journey,” promoting a balance between economic growth, heritage preservation, environmental protection, and community engagement.

Two flagship tourism routes have been launched, connecting the city centre with southern suburban districts: the “Southern Thăng Long Heritage Route – Returning to the Roots” and the “Quintessence of Vietnamese Craft Villages.”

In response to rising demand for sustainable travel, Hà Nội has also developed wellness- and education-focused tourism offerings, including community-based experiences in Miền Village in Ba Vì District, rooted in the traditional herbal knowledge of the Dao Quần Chẹt ethnic group.

Preparations have been finalised for upcoming peak travel periods, including the Hùng Kings’ Commemoration Day and the April 30–May 1 holiday.

Authorities have further strengthened tourism governance, advancing key plans and projects, including a comprehensive tourism development scheme featuring breakthrough solutions to attract international visitors. Initiatives promoting agricultural and rural tourism are also being expanded across various localities.

Efforts to enhance tourism products continue through destination surveys and improved connectivity, with a focus on linking craft villages and cultural experiences.

Promotion activities have been intensified in a coordinated manner. At the Việt Nam International Travel Mart Hanoi 2026, themed “Green Tourism – Vibrant Experiences,” Hà Nội’s pavilion attracted approximately 90,000 visitors, significantly boosting the city’s profile among domestic and international audiences.

The city is also expanding international cooperation through tourism forums and conferences to tap into new markets and reinforce its global standing as a leading destination.

Human resource development remains a key priority, with regular training programmes conducted for tour guides and heritage site interpreters. Concurrently, the Department of Tourism is advancing data development initiatives to support digital transformation across the sector.

Looking ahead to May and beyond, Hà Nội’s tourism sector will continue implementing its development strategy with a focus on innovation and sustainability, aiming to achieve its target of 12 million international visitors. Authorities are also preparing promotion plans for the 2027–2030 period and exploring proposals for additional national tourism zones, including Ba Vì, Hương Sơn, the Hoàn Kiếm Lake area, and the Old Quarter.

With coordinated policy implementation and a strong focus on quality and sustainability, Hà Nội is reinforcing its reputation as a safe, welcoming, and high-quality destination, poised for continued growth and further breakthroughs in 2026.
