Ukraine Announces Major Military Reform to Boost Troop Welfare and Operational Efficiency

Ukraine

Kyiv, May 1, 2026 – The Europe Today: Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday announced that Ukraine is preparing to launch a major military reform aimed at improving the structure, efficiency, and welfare of its armed forces amid ongoing security challenges.

According to the president, the reform process is set to begin in June, with initial results expected within the same month, particularly in enhancing financial support for military personnel, including soldiers, sergeants, and commanders serving in Ukraine’s Defence Forces.

In a statement shared on Telegram, Zelenskyy said the planned reforms would include an increase in wages for military staff, measures to strengthen the contract-based service system, and consideration of a phased discharge mechanism for long-serving personnel.

Ukrainian officials emphasized that the overhaul is part of broader efforts to improve retention, boost morale, and enhance the operational effectiveness of the armed forces as the country continues to adapt its military framework in response to evolving security demands.
