Azerbaijan Provides Consular Assistance Following Deadly Sea of Azov Drone Attack

Baku, June 7, 2026 – The Europe Today: The Government of Azerbaijan has launched emergency consular and repatriation efforts following reports of deaths and injuries among Azerbaijani citizens resulting from a drone attack on cargo vessels in the Sea of Azov on June 5.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, staff members from the Azerbaijani Embassy in Russia were immediately dispatched to the affected area after receiving information about the incident.

Officials from the embassy’s Consular Section are currently in the Russian city of Yeysk, where they are providing necessary assistance to injured and rescued Azerbaijani nationals. Authorities reported that the condition of the injured individuals is stable, and several are expected to be released from hospital in the coming days.

The ministry stated that search and rescue operations remain ongoing, while Russian authorities continue the process of identifying those who lost their lives in the attack and completing other required legal procedures.

At the same time, Azerbaijani officials are working to finalize documentation for the rescued citizens, issue emergency travel certificates, and arrange their return to Azerbaijan.

In an official statement, the Foreign Ministry said it is maintaining close coordination with relevant authorities and monitoring developments under special supervision. The ministry added that further information regarding the identities of the deceased and the repatriation of their remains will be released as it becomes available.

The incident has drawn significant attention as authorities continue efforts to assist survivors and establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack.
