Jakarta, June 10, 2026 – The Europe Today: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has announced an ambitious plan to build and renovate between 300 and 400 hospitals across Indonesia’s districts over the next three years as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen national healthcare services and improve public access to quality medical care.
Speaking during the inauguration of the K.H. Muhammad Thohir Krui Regional General Hospital in West Pesisir District, Lampung Province, on Wednesday, President Prabowo said the initiative would be implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and remains one of the government’s top priorities.
“Over the next three years, we will build and renovate 300 to 400 hospitals across every district in Indonesia,” the president said.
He noted that the programme forms part of a broader strategy to enhance healthcare accessibility and ensure that citizens, particularly those living in remote and underserved regions, can receive quality medical treatment without the need to travel to major urban centres.
In addition to expanding hospital infrastructure, the government plans to modernise approximately 10,000 community health centres, known as puskesmas, across the country to strengthen primary healthcare services at the local level.
President Prabowo said the initiative is a key component of the government’s ongoing transformation of Indonesia’s healthcare system, aimed at improving service quality and expanding healthcare coverage nationwide.
Implementation of the programme has already begun. During 2025, the government constructed 22 regional general hospitals and plans to build another 22 hospitals in 2026.
The president highlighted that significant progress has already been achieved, with 20 hospitals completed during the first phase of the programme and now fully operational, providing medical services to local communities.
President Prabowo expressed confidence that the accelerated construction and renovation of healthcare facilities would enhance the quality of healthcare services throughout the country while helping to reduce regional disparities in access to medical care.
The initiative is expected to play a central role in strengthening Indonesia’s healthcare infrastructure and improving health outcomes for millions of citizens across the archipelago.
