Hanoi, October 27, 2026 – The Europe Today: Vietnamese Party General Secretary and State President Tô Lâm has called for strengthening cooperation between Việt Nam and Poland in science, technology and innovation, particularly in high-potential sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI), digital technology, cybersecurity and biotechnology.

He made the remarks during a meeting with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Hà Nội on Monday, highlighting Việt Nam’s commitment to consolidating and deepening relations with Poland, which he described as a traditional and trusted friend and one of Việt Nam’s key partners in Central and Eastern Europe.

Lâm welcomed the outcomes of talks between Vietnamese Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng and his Polish counterpart, particularly the decision to elevate bilateral relations to a strategic partnership. He said the upgraded status would provide a new framework and momentum for expanding cooperation across various fields.

The Vietnamese leader called on both sides to effectively implement the agreements reached during Tusk’s visit and maintain regular high-level exchanges through Party, State, government and legislative channels.

Emphasising economic cooperation, Lâm urged the two countries to seize emerging opportunities and achieve breakthroughs in bilateral trade, with the aim of increasing two-way trade to US$6 billion at an early date in a balanced, sustainable and mutually beneficial manner.

He encouraged Poland to become Việt Nam’s leading investor from Central and Eastern Europe, reaffirming Hà Nội’s readiness to facilitate long-term investment and business activities by Polish companies.

Priority investment sectors include manufacturing and processing, food processing, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, environmental protection, minerals, transportation, logistics and modern infrastructure.

Lâm also called for expanded cooperation in seaports, maritime logistics, shipbuilding, marine science, marine environmental protection and maritime workforce training. He stressed the importance of sharing experience in maritime economic management.

On defence and security, the Vietnamese leader advocated strengthening practical and effective cooperation, including exploring opportunities in defence industries and the development of relevant products in accordance with the policies and conditions of both countries.

He further identified pharmaceuticals, microbiology, and drug research and development as promising areas for bilateral collaboration.

Highlighting educational and scientific exchanges, Lâm encouraged Poland to continue offering scholarships to Vietnamese students and researchers, particularly in basic sciences, engineering, high technology, logistics, digital transformation, medicine, maritime affairs and defence industries.

For his part, Tusk expressed pleasure at returning to Việt Nam after 16 years, praising the country’s significant achievements in economic development, social progress and diplomacy.

He described Việt Nam as one of Poland’s leading partners in Southeast Asia and among its most important partners across Asia.

The Polish prime minister welcomed Lâm’s proposals and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to working closely with Việt Nam to implement the agreements reached during the visit without delay.

Tusk highlighted the considerable potential for breakthroughs in economic and trade relations, science and technology, defence and security, industry, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, tourism and artificial intelligence.

Both sides also welcomed the resumption of direct flights between the two countries by Polish airline LOT, describing the development as an important step towards strengthening people-to-people contacts and promoting tourism, trade and investment.

During the meeting, Tusk expressed gratitude to Việt Nam for building and maintaining a memorial dedicated to Polish architect Kazimierz Kwiatkowski, who made significant contributions to the preservation of cultural heritage in Huế, Mỹ Sơn and Hội An.

The discussions underscored the shared commitment of Việt Nam and Poland to translating their newly upgraded strategic partnership into concrete outcomes through enhanced economic engagement, technological innovation, investment and closer people-to-people exchanges.
