Mauritius to Hold National Youth Consultative Workshop to Review Adolescent Health Strategy 2024–2029

Port Louis, October 31, 2026 – The Europe Today: The Ministry of Health and Wellness, in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), will hold a National Youth Consultative Workshop on November 5 and 6, 2026, to undertake a consultative review of the National Adolescent Health Strategy 2024–2029.

The review has been prompted by Mauritius’ evolving demographic and social landscape, which is marked by declining fertility rates, an ageing population, changing family structures, rapid digital transformation and the emergence of new health challenges affecting adolescents and young people.

The workshop will follow a youth-led and participatory approach designed to ensure the meaningful involvement of adolescents and young people throughout the review process. Its primary objectives are to examine the existing Strategy and assess the continued relevance of its priorities and proposed interventions in meeting the changing health needs of young people. It will also seek to identify emerging adolescent health issues, challenges and priorities, drawing on the experiences, perspectives and aspirations of young people themselves.

In addition, the workshop aims to formulate recommendations to strengthen the Strategy’s interventions and implementation mechanisms, with a view to enhancing its effectiveness and responsiveness. It further seeks to promote active youth participation in both the review and the implementation of the Strategy, ensuring that the views and recommendations of adolescents and young people are adequately reflected in national adolescent health policies and programmes.

The initiative underscores the commitment of the Ministry of Health and Wellness and UNFPA to placing young people at the centre of decisions that shape their health and well-being in Mauritius.
