Rio De Janeiro, November 18, 2024 – The Europe Today: Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed his anticipation for in-depth discussions with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to enhance bilateral relations, align development strategies, and address international and regional issues of shared interest. President Xi made these remarks in a written statement upon his arrival in Brazil for the 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit and a state visit at the invitation of President Lula.

Extending warm greetings to the Brazilian government and its people, Xi reflected on his long-standing connection with Brazil, having visited the country four times in the past 30 years. He acknowledged Brazil’s transformation over the decades and expressed a sense of camaraderie as he stepped onto what he described as a “passionate land.”

President Xi highlighted the deep-rooted friendship between China and Brazil, noting their roles as major developing nations in the eastern and western hemispheres, respectively. Despite geographical distances, the two countries have forged a strong partnership based on shared aspirations and mutual support.

In recent years, China and Brazil have strengthened political trust, expanded practical cooperation, enhanced cultural exchanges, and demonstrated the vitality of their traditional friendship. Together, the two nations have amplified the voice of the Global South on the international stage, contributing significantly to global peace and development, Xi remarked.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Brazil, a milestone that Xi described as a pivotal moment to reflect on past achievements and chart a course for the future. He expressed confidence that his visit would deepen strategic trust, foster collaboration in diverse fields, and usher in a “golden 50 years” for bilateral relations.

Addressing the 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit, Xi underscored his commitment to working with global partners to advocate for a multipolar world, equitable economic globalization, and inclusive development. He emphasized the role of the G20 as a crucial platform for international economic cooperation and his readiness to contribute to discussions that shape the global agenda.

President Xi’s visit to Brazil follows his participation in the 31st APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Lima and a state visit to Peru, underscoring China’s active engagement in fostering regional and global partnerships.
