Indonesian Minister Invites UAE Investors to Expand Tourism Investments

Jakarta, November 24, 2024 – The Europe Today: Indonesian Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana has extended an invitation to investors in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to increase their investments in Indonesia’s burgeoning tourism sector.

During a meeting with UAE Minister of Economy Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri in Abu Dhabi, Minister Wardhana highlighted the growing potential for UAE tourist visits to Indonesia and underscored the mutual benefits of deeper collaboration in the sector.

“In 2023, UAE investments in Indonesia’s tourism sector saw a substantial increase,” Wardhana stated on Sunday, adding that investments in 2023 were six times higher than in 2022. Key areas of investment included restaurants, travel agency operations, and luxury hotels.

So far in 2024, UAE investments in Indonesia’s tourism sector have reached $1.8 million, contributing to a total of $5.66 million over the past three years.

“This provides further opportunities for UAE investors to expand their portfolios,” Wardhana emphasized.

As part of her visit, Wardhana promoted Indonesia’s unique and diverse tourist destinations, encouraging UAE investors to seize the opportunities offered by Indonesia’s five super-priority destinations and 10 tourism special economic zones (SEZs).

“Tourism is a top sector of the Indonesian economy and a key contributor to the 2023 national investment target,” Wardhana noted, expressing optimism that enhanced investment from the UAE would further solidify bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector.

The meeting is expected to strengthen the economic ties between the two nations and boost Indonesia’s appeal as a premier global tourist destination.
