Kazakhstan-China Agro-Trade Strengthens with New Agreements

Beijing, December 01, 2024 – The Europe Today: Agriculture remains a central pillar of Kazakhstan-China relations, as evidenced by the increasing trade in agro-industrial products, Kazakh Agriculture Minister Aidarbek Saparbayev stated during roundtable discussions in Beijing. The event, which brought together key food and agricultural companies from both countries, showcased the growing collaboration in the sector.

Minister Saparbayev highlighted that the turnover of agro-industrial products between Kazakhstan and China had grown significantly, with a 1.7-fold increase in 2013, surpassing 1.3 billion tenge. This positive trend reflects the mutual interest in advancing agricultural development. Over the past nine months, the agro-industrial complex turnover between the two nations rose by 5.6%, reaching 941 billion US dollars.

The roundtable aimed to foster dialogue and business connections, uniting Kazakhstan’s top producers of plant-growing and animal products with potential Chinese partners. Among the attendees were representatives from Kazakhstan’s Meat Union, oil-bearing crop processing companies, and associations for animal, plant, grain, and forage products. High-level executives from Kazakhstan’s agricultural producers and exporters also participated in the event.

As a result of the talks, a series of commercial agreements between Kazakhstan and Chinese companies on agro-industrial cooperation were signed. Additionally, B2B meetings facilitated further exchanges of ideas and business opportunities.

Minister Saparbayev also pointed to broader economic cooperation between the two countries. According to Chinese statistics, the total trade turnover between Kazakhstan and China reached 36.5 billion US dollars in the past 10 months.

In line with growing trade, Kazakh Transport Minister Marat Karabayev recently announced a significant increase in container transportation from China, which has surged by 25 times. Karabayev also revealed that construction of a container hub at Aktau port is underway, along with the development of a Kazakh terminal in the European part of the corridor, which aims to further boost regional trade and connectivity.
