Tokyo, December 15, 2024 – The Europe Today: Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyễn Minh Vũ co-chaired the 8th Vietnam-Japan Strategic Partnership Dialogue alongside Japanese counterpart Funakoshi Takehiro during his working visit to Japan from December 11 to 13.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close coordination and mutual support at international and regional forums, including the United Nations, ASEAN, and APEC. They pledged to address international issues of mutual concern, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and globally.
Deputy Minister Vũ reiterated Vietnam’s steadfast foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralism, and diversification in international relations. He emphasized Japan’s status as one of Vietnam’s most vital long-term partners and expressed support for Japan’s increased role in international and regional matters.
Highlighting future collaborations, Vũ urged Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to support and actively participate in key international events hosted by Vietnam in 2025, such as the P4G Summit and the 2nd ASEAN Future Forum.
Japanese Deputy Minister Funakoshi affirmed Vietnam’s pivotal role in Japan’s foreign policy and expressed hope for Vietnam’s participation in the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Kansai.
Deputy Minister Vũ extended invitations from Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính to Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru for an official visit to Vietnam and from Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Bùi Thanh Sơn to Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi to co-chair the 13th Vietnam-Japan Cooperation Committee in 2025.
During his visit, Deputy Minister Vũ engaged in a series of high-level meetings, including courtesy calls with Minister of Justice Suzuki Keisuke, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Miyaji Takuma, and Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology Takebe Arata. He also toured Yamaguchi and Osaka prefectures, where he met with Yamaguchi’s Governor, Osaka’s Deputy Governor, and the Mayor of Sakai City.
The visit underscored the enduring strength of the Vietnam-Japan partnership and laid a foundation for enhanced cooperation in the years to come.
