Jakarta, December 16, 2024 – The Europe Today: President Prabowo Subianto has directed all relevant authorities to prioritize the safety and security of activities involving the movement of 110 million people during the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), conveyed this message following a meeting held on Monday. The President’s instruction specifically focused on ensuring that Christians can worship comfortably and safely during the holiday season.
“The President called on related ministries and stakeholders to monitor the safety and security of Christmas and New Year activities, with particular attention to ensuring that all Christians can worship properly and securely,” AHY stated.
The government has initiated a series of preparations to guarantee smooth travel and mitigate challenges during the holiday period. With the expected significant increase in travel activity, special attention will be given to securing vital locations, such as places of worship and key public travel routes.
AHY reported that the police chief outlined the security preparations by the police force, with additional support from the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI), to ensure the safety of land, sea, air, and train transportation. The Minister of Transportation confirmed that all transportation facilities and infrastructure are prepared to accommodate the movement of the 110 million people expected during this period.
“We will monitor the situation through the command center and posts set up at various vulnerable locations requiring enhanced traffic control,” AHY said.
Regarding infrastructure, AHY assured that the Minister of Public Works is overseeing the readiness and condition of toll roads and national roads to ensure smooth travel.
Furthermore, AHY emphasized that the availability of fuel and electricity during the holiday season has been secured, with anticipatory measures in place. The stability of essential goods, including basic necessities, is also guaranteed, he added, ensuring that prices remain stable throughout the festivities.
The government’s coordinated efforts reflect its commitment to ensuring a safe, secure, and smooth experience for all Indonesians during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
