Japan Airlines Targeted by Cyberattack, Causing Flight Delays and System Malfunctions

Tokyo, December 26, 2024 – The Europe Today: Japan Airlines (JAL) announced on Thursday that it was the target of a cyberattack on its system earlier in the morning, potentially affecting both domestic and international flights.

JAL identified the source of the system failure at 8:56 a.m. and has since addressed the issue, with the airline actively monitoring the recovery of its systems. As a precaution, JAL temporarily suspended the sale of tickets for flights departing Thursday.

“We apologize for the inconvenience it has caused,” the airline said in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter).

According to NHK, the cyberattack has led to delays in multiple flights and disruptions in the system handling passengers’ baggage. At Haneda Airport, delays of up to 50 minutes were reported for about a dozen departing flights. However, no flights have been canceled at this time.

Other domestic airlines, including ANA, Skymark, Solaseed Air, Airdo, and StarFlyer, were not affected by the cyberattack, NHK reported. JAL continues to monitor and resolve the technical issues as it works to minimize disruptions to its services.
