Azerbaijan and Pakistan Sign Key Agreements to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

Baku, February 24, 2025 – The Europe Today: A ceremony to exchange signed documents between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan took place in Baku, with the participation of Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, and Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan. The event marked a significant step in advancing strategic and economic ties between the two nations.

During the ceremony, several important agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were exchanged between Azerbaijani and Pakistani officials, reinforcing cooperation in the energy, infrastructure, and trade sectors.

Rovshan Najaf, President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), and Abdul Sami, Director General of the Frontier Works Organization (FWO), exchanged the Memorandum of Understanding between SOCAR, FWO, and Pakistan State Oil Company Limited, emphasizing collaboration in the energy sector.

Furthermore, Rovshan Najaf and Zahid Mir, Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL), exchanged the Memorandum of Understanding between SOCAR, PRL, and Pakistan State Oil Company Limited, highlighting enhanced cooperation in refining and petroleum trade.

Additionally, an Amendment Agreement No. 1 to the Framework Agreement for the Sale and Purchase of LNG Cargoes was exchanged between Rovshan Najaf and Masood Nabi, Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan LNG Limited. The agreement pertains to the Master (Delivered Ex-Ship) LNG Sale and Purchase Agreement between SOCAR Trading SA and Pakistan LNG Limited, further strengthening Azerbaijan’s role as a key energy supplier to Pakistan.

Rovshan Najaf also exchanged multiple agreements with Syed Muhammad Taha, Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan State Oil Company Limited. These included the Memorandum of Understanding between SOCAR Trading SA and Pakistan State Oil Company Limited, as well as the Acknowledgment for Term Sale and Purchase Agreement for Petroleum Products, ensuring the steady supply of petroleum products between both countries.

Beyond energy collaboration, Azerbaijan and Pakistan reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cultural and economic ties. Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, exchanged the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the city of Nakhchivan in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan and the city of Lahore in the Punjab Province of Pakistan. The agreement promotes collaboration in culture, tourism, urban planning, education, science, economy, and other areas of mutual interest.

The signing of these agreements underscores the growing partnership between Azerbaijan and Pakistan, paving the way for expanded cooperation across multiple sectors. The event reflects both nations’ commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and fostering long-term strategic collaboration.
