Ashgabat, March 8, 2025 – The Europe Today: The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, met with Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maka Botchorishvili, in Ashgabat on March 7, 2025. The meeting took place as part of a high-level Georgian delegation led by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
Both sides emphasized the significance of high-level diplomatic engagements in fostering bilateral relations, highlighting the Prime Minister of Georgia’s visit as a key moment in strengthening interstate ties.
The ministers expressed satisfaction with the growing cooperation between Turkmenistan and Georgia, both on a bilateral level and within international platforms, particularly the United Nations. They discussed joint activities for 2025, a year designated as the International Year of Peace and Trust at Turkmenistan’s initiative, as per a UN General Assembly resolution.
During the discussions, both parties stressed the importance of sustaining diplomatic engagement through regular consultations and high-level dialogue between their respective foreign ministries.
A key topic on the agenda was the Black Sea-Caspian Sea Transport and Transit Corridor Project, which aims to enhance regional connectivity. Additionally, the Black Sea Underwater Energy Cable Project was discussed, with the Georgian Foreign Minister highlighting Georgia’s strategic role in the initiative.
As a concrete step towards enhancing diplomatic cooperation, Turkmenistan and Georgia signed a Cooperation Program for 2025-2026 between their foreign ministries. Furthermore, an Agreement on Cooperation and Mutual Administrative Assistance in Customs Affairs was signed between the governments of Georgia and Turkmenistan.
These agreements mark a significant step in deepening economic, trade, and diplomatic ties between the two countries, reinforcing their commitment to regional connectivity and strategic cooperation.
