Jakarta, May 26, 2025 – The Europe Today: President Prabowo Subianto on Saturday extended a strong invitation to Chinese entrepreneurs to increase investment in Indonesia, emphasizing a shift beyond natural resource downstreaming to encompass high-impact sectors such as science and technology, education, and health.
The President delivered this message during his keynote address at the Indonesia–China Business Reception held in Jakarta, a high-level event also attended by Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
“I invite Chinese entrepreneurs to continue investing in Indonesia across all fields. Not only in the downstreaming of natural resources, but also in education, health, tourism, and science and technology,” President Prabowo stated.
He underlined that economic cooperation between Indonesia and China is not only beneficial bilaterally but also serves as a strategic partnership that contributes to broader regional prosperity across Asia. Citing the successful Jakarta–Bandung high-speed rail project and the development of industrial areas centered on nickel downstreaming, the President said these initiatives stand as proof of fruitful bilateral collaboration.
Currently, China is Indonesia’s largest trading partner, with an annual trade volume exceeding USD 130 billion. President Prabowo noted that China plays a pivotal role in supporting the development of Indonesia’s industrial and technological capabilities.
The Head of State also took the opportunity to underscore the importance of diversifying investment portfolios, highlighting the need for acceleration in sectors that generate high added value and deliver tangible social benefits. “Indonesia’s future demands strategic development in sectors that directly uplift the population and drive sustainable growth,” he said.
Addressing the domestic business community, President Prabowo encouraged Indonesian entrepreneurs to deepen engagement with China, viewing it as a “learning partner, a production partner, and a partner to jointly enter the global market.”
In closing, President Prabowo expressed his appreciation for China’s consistent support for developing nations and global equity. “I would like to express my respect to the people of China who have consistently supported the interests of developing countries, and consistently opposed oppression, imperialism, colonialism, and apartheid,” he affirmed.
The Indonesia–China Business Reception marked a significant step in reaffirming economic cooperation between the two nations and aligning mutual efforts toward resilient, inclusive, and future-oriented development.
