Sugiono, ASEAN CPR, and Timor-Leste Envoy Discuss Implementation of ASEAN Community Vision 2045

Jakarta, June 6, 2025 – The Europe Today: Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono welcomed the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN (CPR) and the Ambassador of Timor-Leste to ASEAN at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta on Thursday, in a meeting focused on advancing the ASEAN Community Vision (ACV) 2045.

According to a press statement released by the Ministry, the discussions centered on preparations and strategies for implementing ACV 2045, a strategic blueprint that aims to shape a strong, innovative, dynamic, and people-centered ASEAN over the next two decades.

In his remarks, Minister Sugiono underscored the importance of reinforcing ASEAN’s institutional mechanisms, particularly the role of the CPR and the Jakarta channel. He also emphasized the need to further strengthen the ASEAN Secretariat and ASEAN Headquarters in Jakarta to enhance the region’s capacity to respond to regional and global challenges.

“We need to strengthen ASEAN mechanisms, one of which is the CPR and the Jakarta channel, as well as bolster the ASEAN Secretariat and its Headquarters to optimize our collective potential,” the Minister stated.

Sugiono highlighted the CPR’s critical function in driving ASEAN Community development, ensuring effective cross-pillar coordination, and fostering deeper engagement with ASEAN’s external partners.

“The important role of the CPR is one of the keys to achieving ACV 2045,” he affirmed.

The Minister also commended the significant progress achieved within the ASEAN cooperation framework, particularly following the ratification of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 at the 46th ASEAN Summit held in May in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Vision sets out a comprehensive roadmap to realize a more resilient and forward-looking ASEAN by 2045.

In addition, Foreign Minister Sugiono lauded the forthcoming accession of Timor-Leste as the 11th member of ASEAN. He welcomed the country’s active participation and commitment in supporting ASEAN’s shared goals, expressing confidence that Timor-Leste’s full membership will further enrich the regional community.

The meeting reaffirmed the collective commitment of ASEAN member states to work in unity toward achieving the aspirations outlined in ACV 2045, while promoting stability, inclusivity, and sustainable development across the region.
