New York, July 09, 2025 – The Europe Today: A delegation of Turkmenistan, led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Myahri Byashimova, participated in the High-Level Meeting on Regional Zones of Peace, held on July 7, 2025, under the auspices of the United Nations at its headquarters in New York.
The meeting focused on fostering the development of existing and emerging regional zones of peace, promoting cooperation among them, and strengthening friendly relations and mutual trust between nations and regions.
In her address, Deputy Minister Byashimova reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s steadfast commitment to the principles of neutrality, peacefulness, and good neighborliness, which form the foundation of the country’s foreign policy. She underlined Turkmenistan’s consistent position in favor of establishing and reinforcing regional peace zones, especially highlighting the initiative to create a Zone of Peace, Trust, and Cooperation in Central Asia.
Byashimova noted that the consensus adoption of the UN General Assembly Resolution titled “Zone of Peace, Trust and Cooperation of Central Asia” marked a significant advancement in institutionalizing the principles of peace, dialogue, and mutual trust at the regional level.
The Turkmen side emphasized that zones of peace serve as mechanisms for sustainable development, platforms for multilateral diplomacy, and symbols of regional responsibility in supporting peacebuilding processes.
Participants broadly agreed that the meeting served as a critical forum for exchanging ideas and developing joint strategies to strengthen peace and security at both regional and global levels.
Turkmenistan Discusses LLDC3 Preparations with UN Under-Secretary-General
On the same day, Deputy Minister Byashimova held a meeting with UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island States, Rabab Fatima.
The discussion centered on organizational aspects of the upcoming Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3), which is scheduled to take place in August 2025 in Awaza, Turkmenistan.
Both sides underscored the significance of the LLDC3 Conference as a key platform for advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly for landlocked developing nations. The meeting reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to ensuring the success of the event through effective coordination and inclusive international participation.
