Harbin, January 05, 2024, The Europe Today: On Friday evening, the International Ice and Snow Festival commenced in Harbin, the capital city of China’s northernmost Heilongjiang Province, contributing to the nation’s burgeoning ice-and-snow economy. Renowned as China’s “ice city,” Harbin experiences winter temperatures dropping below minus 20 degrees Celsius.
Harbin Ice-Snow World, a landmark ice-and-snow theme park situated on the northern bank of the Songhua River, stands out as China’s premier snow and ice tourism site for New Year holiday travel, according to Trip.com. Covering an expansive 810,000 square meters, the park utilized 250,000 cubic meters of ice and snow from the Songhua River to craft intricate sculptures, including castles and towers, illuminated by vibrant lighting.
This year’s display is the largest since the park’s inception in 1999. Offering over 20 amusement activities, including ice kart racing and snow yo-yo, the park has expanded its attractions to meet growing tourist demand. Notably, the number of ice slides has increased to 14, with the longest slide stretching 521 meters, providing an exhilarating experience and becoming a highlight for visitors like Sun Chengzhe from Fujian Province, who was drawn to Harbin’s ice-and-snow festivities over other winter destinations.
