Jakarta, September 18, 2025 — The Europe Today: Indonesia’s Creative Economy Ministry has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding global networks and protecting the country’s creative works through stronger intellectual property (IP) enforcement and international collaboration.
The Ministry launched this initiative by hosting a workshop titled “Protecting IP Internationally: What Indonesian Creatives Should Know”, held in partnership with the United States Embassy in Jakarta on Thursday.
“This marks a strategic step in Indonesia–US cooperation to support the growth of an IP ecosystem for the creative industry,” said Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky.
The workshop gathered 30 selected participants, including digital content creators, IP regulators, and legal consultants from the creative sector. Riefky expressed hope that the dialogue would promote knowledge exchange and strengthen understanding of IP’s role in advancing Indonesia’s creative economy.
Jason P. Rebholz, Minister Counselor for Public Diplomacy at the US Embassy, welcomed the initiative, calling it a foundation for long-term cooperation. “We’re honored to support this important dialogue. Creative ideas can only thrive globally when protected by transparent and reliable IP systems,” he noted.
Rebholz emphasized that strong IP protection fosters innovation, supports business growth, and creates jobs by encouraging creators to invest in new ideas. “The key is prevention through consistent law enforcement—both online and offline—and practical cooperation between governments, platforms, and rights holders,” he added.
He further highlighted that ongoing collaboration in training, licensing, and best practices would not only help bring Indonesian stories to global audiences but also introduce US expertise to Indonesian creators.
The workshop marked the first joint initiative between the Ministry and the US Embassy. Upcoming activities include a workshop at the Embassy, a talk show, and a public discussion at Jakarta’s Pacific Place.
Officials noted that the series of events could serve as a turning point in enhancing Indonesia’s global presence in the creative economy.
