Ashgabat, September 29, 2025 – The Europe Today: On September 27, 2025, the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, met with the Head of the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation, Rustam Minnikhanov, who arrived in Ashgabat to take part in celebrations marking the 34th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence.
Prior to the meeting, Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Rustam Minnikhanov posed for photographs against the backdrop of the national flags of Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation.
Expressing sincere gratitude for the warm welcome, Minnikhanov congratulated the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty on Turkmenistan’s Independence Day and conveyed heartfelt greetings to Hero-Arkadag and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov from Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
In turn, Hero-Arkadag warmly welcomed Rustam Minnikhanov and congratulated him on his recent election victory as Head of the Republic of Tatarstan. He noted with appreciation that the first country Minnikhanov chose to visit after the election was brotherly Turkmenistan, a reflection of the high level of relations between the two sides. Berdimuhamedov also conveyed his own greetings and best wishes to the leadership of the Russian Federation.
The Turkmen National Leader recalled Minnikhanov’s visit to Turkmenistan in August, emphasizing the dynamic and effective character of Turkmenistan–Tatarstan cooperation within the broader framework of Turkmenistan–Russia dialogue.
The discussions also touched on strengthening economic cooperation, highlighting the important role of the Joint Turkmen–Tatarstan Working Group on trade, economic, scientific-technical, and cultural cooperation. Both sides underlined the significance of expanding humanitarian ties, including in science and education. It was noted that academics, educators, cultural figures, and delegations from both Turkmenistan and Tatarstan actively participate in major international events hosted in each region.
Rustam Minnikhanov commended the efforts of the President of Turkmenistan to advance friendly relations between the peoples of Turkmenistan and Tatarstan.
Concluding the meeting, Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that Minnikhanov’s visit would give new impetus to further strengthening Turkmen–Tatarstan cooperation and deepening ties between the two fraternal peoples. Both leaders exchanged warm wishes for success and prosperity.
