Paris, January 10, 2024, The Europe Today: Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo announced her intention to swim in the River Seine as a symbolic gesture ahead of the Summer Olympics this year. While the water quality in the Seine has already reached a point where bathing is feasible for two days out of three on average during the summer, the city aims to further enhance water quality as the 2024 Olympics approach.
The overarching objective is to achieve a level of cleanliness that allows for swimming by 2025, with the Games serving as a catalyst for this improvement.
Despite the cancellation of sporting events in the Seine last year due to health standards not being met following heavy rains and a sewer problem, Paris remains committed to elevating the river’s water quality in preparation for future recreational activities.
