Rabat, December 15, 2025 – The Europe Today: The death toll from the flash floods that struck the Moroccan city of Safi on Sunday has risen to 21, authorities confirmed late Monday, as heavy rainfall caused widespread damage across the city.

Videos circulating on social media depict streets submerged in water, with vehicles nearly floating and residents struggling against strong currents to rescue others. One widely shared clip shows an elderly woman clinging to a wall as floodwaters rise around her, narrowly saved by nearby residents.

The floods have also caused significant structural damage in several parts of Safi, with some walls collapsing and sections of the city severely affected by the force of the water.

In response to safety concerns, the regional directorate of education announced the suspension of classes on Monday for all public and private schools in the city.

The disaster has prompted strong reactions online, with many users questioning whether weather warnings were issued in time and criticizing the city’s infrastructure for its vulnerability to extreme weather.

Authorities stated that all relevant services remain fully mobilized to continue search operations for possible missing persons, secure affected areas, carry out field interventions, and provide assistance to impacted communities. Dozens of injured individuals have received medical treatment, with most discharged after care, while others remain under observation.
