Iran Emphasizes Historical Ties with Georgia Ahead of New Ambassador’s Posting

Tehran, January 4, 2026 – The Europe Today: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Sunday described relations with Georgia as “historical and based on close people-to-people bonds” during a meeting with the Islamic Republic’s newly appointed ambassador to Tbilisi.

The meeting, held ahead of Ambassador Ali Mojani’s departure for his post, focused on strengthening bilateral interactions and cooperation. Araghchi emphasized the importance of expanding collaboration in key areas, including political, cultural, economic, trade, transit, and tourism sectors.

Ambassador Mojani, a seasoned diplomat and former advisor at Iran’s Foreign Ministry, outlined his priorities and plans to further enhance Tehran-Tbilisi relations and deepen cooperation across multiple fields.

Araghchi formally introduced Mojani as Iran’s ambassador to Georgia on October 30, 2025, underscoring Tehran’s commitment to fostering strong diplomatic and cultural ties with its neighboring country.
