Erdogan Meets Malaysian PM Anwar to Boost Strategic Cooperation

Ankara, January 7, 2026 – The Europe Today: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a high-level meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Wednesday at the Presidential Complex in Ankara. The meeting was closed to the press. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also attended the discussions.

Prime Minister Anwar is on an official visit to Türkiye from 6 to 8 January at the invitation of President Erdogan, according to Burhanettin Duran, Türkiye’s Communications Director.

Duran noted on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal that the first meeting of the Türkiye-Malaysia High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council was scheduled to take place on Wednesday as part of the visit.

Several agreements are expected to be signed to strengthen the contractual framework of bilateral relations between Ankara and Kuala Lumpur. In addition, regional and international issues will be discussed during the talks, highlighting the commitment of both countries to deepen strategic cooperation.
