Jakarta, March 15, 2026 – The Europe Today: Indonesia’s Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has expressed hope that the upcoming celebrations of Nyepi (Silence Day) and Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah will serve as an important momentum to strengthen solidarity and reinforce national unity among Indonesians.

In a statement uploaded to the Vice President’s official YouTube channel on Sunday, Gibran emphasized that these religious holidays provide an opportunity for people across the country to promote harmony and togetherness despite Indonesia’s vast diversity.

“I hope that the celebration of Nyepi Day and Eid al-Fitr this year will become an important moment for all of us to strengthen solidarity and unity as Indonesian people,” he stated.

The vice president extended his greetings to Hindus across Indonesia on the occasion of Nyepi Day and Saka New Year 1948, expressing hope that the commemoration will bring peace, wisdom, and renewed enthusiasm for national development.

He also conveyed his Eid greetings to Muslims across the country, wishing them a blessed Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah and praying that the nation continues to receive blessings and protection.

Gibran noted that this year holds special significance as Chinese New Year coincided with the holy month of Ramadan, while Nyepi on March 19 falls close to the Eid al-Fitr celebrations in the third week of March.

“This momentum highlights that Indonesia’s diversity is not something to be disputed, but rather a national strength that enables people to live together in harmony,” he said.

He further stressed that the country’s diversity of religions, ethnicities, and traditions forms a unique national identity that must be preserved.

“As citizens of this nation, we must be grateful for and protect our diversity,” he added.

Meanwhile, ahead of the holiday season, the government has launched several economic stimulus measures to facilitate public mobility and maintain purchasing power.

To support the annual mudik (homecoming) travel season, the government has introduced transportation discounts from March 14 to 29, 2026, including 30 percent discounts on train and Pelni sea travel, as well as 17–18 percent discounts on economy-class flights. Port service fees will also be waived between March 12 and 31, 2026.

To ease travel congestion, a work-from-anywhere (WFA) scheme will be implemented on March 16–17 and March 25–27, 2026.

Additionally, the government will distribute food assistance packages consisting of 10 kilograms of rice and two liters of cooking oil for two months to 35.04 million beneficiary families.

Officials said these policies aim to enable citizens to travel more flexibly while ensuring that economic activities, tourism, and the affordability of essential goods remain stable during the festive season.
