Jakarta, March 30, 2026 – The Europe Today: A detachment of warships from the Russian Navy’s Pacific Fleet arrived at Tanjung Priok Port in Jakarta on Sunday to participate in a series of engagements with the Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL), including planned joint exercises aimed at enhancing maritime cooperation.
According to a statement issued by the Russian Embassy in Jakarta, the visiting fleet comprises the Gromky-335 corvette, the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky B-274 submarine, and the Andrey Stepanov tugboat.
The embassy confirmed that joint drills focusing on maneuvering and communication are scheduled to take place as part of the visit, underscoring growing defense collaboration between the two countries.
A formal welcoming ceremony was held at Tanjung Priok Port, attended by Indonesian Navy 3rd Naval Region Commander Brigadier General Dian Suryansyah and Rear Admiral Evgeny Myasoedov, Deputy Commander of Troops and Forces of Russia’s Pacific Fleet in the Northeast. Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Sergei Tolchenov also received the fleet and later toured the vessels.
During the ceremony, both sides highlighted the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Indonesia and Russia, particularly in the naval domain. They reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening mutual interaction in order to maintain peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region.
Prior to the commencement of joint drills, commanders and crew members from both navies are scheduled to participate in official meetings, protocol engagements, and friendly sporting activities to foster closer ties.
The Russian Embassy further announced that an “open ship” event will be held on March 31, allowing the public to visit the vessels between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. local time, subject to prior registration.
This visit follows a previous engagement in May 2025, when Indonesia hosted Russian Pacific Fleet ships for joint exercises marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. Those activities also included participation in the 5th Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo (MNEK) held in Bali earlier that year.
The latest port call reflects continued efforts by both countries to expand maritime cooperation and strengthen bilateral defense ties.
