Jakarta, April 26, 2026 – The Europe Today: Higher Education Minister of Indonesia Brian Yuliarto has called on universities to become more responsive and impactful by aligning academic activities with the needs of society and national development priorities.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the minister emphasized the importance of the “impactful university” concept, which integrates education, research, and community service to address real-world challenges.
Yuliarto made the remarks during a strategic dialogue held in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, with leaders from universities, polytechnics, and regional higher education service institutions (LLDikti).
“We want knowledge, research and students to engage in hands-on work that meets the needs of surrounding communities,” he said, stressing the need for practical engagement beyond traditional academic frameworks.
The minister also underscored the importance of maintaining integrity within academic institutions, calling for campuses to remain free from all forms of violence and misconduct.
Highlighting the challenges of student development in the digital era, Yuliarto pointed to the critical role of educators in shaping not only academic excellence but also character and values among students.
He urged institutions to respond swiftly to evolving challenges in higher education, noting that the government is taking steps to improve services through regulatory reforms and by strengthening the role of LLDikti as a public service agency.
“We welcome feedback to improve our services, including through LLDikti,” he added.
Encouraging optimism among academic leaders, Yuliarto expressed confidence that universities will continue to play a pivotal role in nurturing future generations who will contribute to national progress.
“I believe they will become community leaders, national leaders and pioneers of development,” he said.
