Manila, May 24, 2026 – The Europe Today: Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is set to begin a four-day state visit to Japan on Tuesday, where he will be welcomed with full state honors and awarded one of Japan’s highest distinctions.
Beyond the ceremonial events, President Marcos is expected to hold substantive talks with Sanae Takaichi focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in defense and energy amid rising regional and global security concerns.
The discussions are expected to address China’s growing military assertiveness in the region as well as the implications of ongoing instability in the Middle East on global energy security and economic stability.
The visit marks the first state visit by a Philippine leader to Japan in more than a decade and reflects the deepening strategic partnership between the Philippines and Japan.
President Marcos is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Takaichi on Thursday as both sides seek to advance cooperation on regional security, economic resilience, and energy collaboration.
