Rabat, June 1, 2026 – The Europe Today: Paris Saint-Germain and football fans worldwide are celebrating Moroccan star Achraf Hakimi after he became the most decorated African player in football history, marking a historic milestone in his career.
His club, Paris Saint-Germain, praised the Moroccan international, highlighting his achievement as the first Arab player to win the UEFA Champions League three times, further strengthening his status among football’s elite.
With a total of 19 career trophies, Hakimi has now surpassed African football legends such as Samuel Eto’o and Yaya Touré, becoming the most decorated African player in the sport’s history.
According to ESPN, Hakimi entered the Champions League final against Arsenal carrying the possibility of equalling Eto’o’s record of three Champions League titles—an achievement considered highly significant in African football history. ESPN also highlighted his exceptional rise, noting that he broke new ground in 2025 when he became the first full-back to be named African Footballer of the Year by the Confederation of African Football.
“For Hakimi to get the recognition he’s gotten, as a fullback, he’s had to be something special—impacting games like an attacker from deep positions and delivering consistently in major competitions,” ESPN reported.
Beyond club success, Hakimi’s focus now shifts to international duties with Morocco. He has been included in a 26-man squad announced by coach Mohamed Ouahbi for upcoming international commitments.
Morocco, which reached the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and later won the Africa Cup of Nations, continues to carry high expectations as one of the continent’s strongest teams. The national side is placed in Group C alongside Brazil, Scotland, and Haiti.
Morocco will begin its campaign on June 13 with a high-profile opening match against Brazil, as anticipation builds over another potential historic run for the Atlas Lions.
