Jakarta, June 14, 2026 — The Europe Today: A total of 20,500 runners took part in the opening day of the 2026 BTN Jakarta International Marathon (BTN JAKIM) on Saturday, competing in the 5K and 10K race categories as one of Indonesia’s largest road-running events got underway.

The event attracted strong public participation and was praised by officials for its smooth organization and positive atmosphere.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung commended the successful execution of the marathon’s first day, highlighting the efficient management of the event and the readiness of city services.

“The streets were clean, everything ran smoothly, and thankfully, everyone had a great time,” Pramono said in Jakarta on Saturday.

The governor reaffirmed the full support of the Jakarta Provincial Government for the international sporting event and expressed optimism that the second day of competition, featuring the half-marathon and full marathon races, would be even more successful.

Looking ahead, Pramono said the city is already planning a larger and better-organized edition of the marathon next year as part of celebrations marking Jakarta’s 500th anniversary.

Meanwhile, Nixon LP Napitupulu, President Director of Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN), attributed the success of the opening day to favorable weather conditions and the strong enthusiasm shown by participants and spectators.

He emphasized that major sporting events such as BTN JAKIM generate substantial economic benefits for the capital city by boosting tourism, hospitality, transportation, and related sectors.

According to projections from race organizer Indonesia Muda Road Runner, the economic impact of BTN JAKIM 2026 is expected to reach Rp225 billion (approximately US$12.6 million), representing a significant increase from the estimated Rp155 billion generated by the previous edition.

The marathon has drawn a total of 45,500 registered participants, including 1,012 international runners from 52 countries. The largest numbers of overseas participants have come from Malaysia, Singapore, and South Korea, reflecting the growing international appeal of the event.

On the opening day, 5,500 runners competed in the 5K race, while 15,000 participants took part in the 10K category.

The competition will continue on Sunday with 16,400 runners scheduled to participate in the half-marathon and 8,600 runners set to compete in the full marathon.

Participants will race along a route showcasing some of Jakarta’s most iconic landmarks, beginning at the National Monument (Monas) area and concluding at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Sports Complex.

Organizers and city officials expressed confidence that the event will continue to strengthen Jakarta’s reputation as a premier destination for international sporting events while promoting healthy lifestyles and contributing to economic growth.

With record participation and increasing international interest, BTN Jakarta International Marathon 2026 is expected to further enhance the capital’s profile on the global sporting stage and support preparations for the city’s milestone 500th anniversary celebrations next year.
