Paris, June 15, 2026 – The Europe Today: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has welcomed the agreement between the United States and Iran, describing it as a “decisive step” toward enhancing stability in the region.

In a statement issued through his spokesman, Stéphane Dujarric, the UN chief expressed hope that both parties would build on the momentum created by the agreement and intensify efforts to achieve a lasting resolution to the conflict.

“The Secretary-General hopes that the parties will take advantage of this new dynamic and redouble their efforts to reach a definitive solution to the conflict,” Dujarric said.

Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) nations would discuss the long-term reopening of the Strait of Hormuz during their meeting on Monday. His remarks were made in a video message posted on social media and reported by AFP.

According to Macron, key issues on the agenda at the G7 summit in France include support for Lebanon, ensuring a lasting reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and discussions related to Iran’s nuclear energy programme.

The developments come amid renewed diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions and promoting stability in the Middle East.
