Turkmenistan, EBRD Prepare Draft Agreements to Expand Strategic Cooperation

Ashgabat, June 28, 2026 – The Europe Today: Turkmenistan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development have prepared draft documents aimed at expanding cooperation in the fuel and energy, transport, environmental, financial and banking sectors ahead of the bank leadership’s planned visit to the country next month.

According to Turkmen state media, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov briefed an online meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation with the EBRD.

Meredov said a working meeting was held in preparation for the upcoming visit of the bank’s leadership, bringing together heads of relevant ministries and sectoral agencies, along with the head of the EBRD office in Turkmenistan. Participants reviewed draft agreements expected to be signed during the visit.

Following the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov reaffirmed that Turkmenistan attaches special importance to strengthening relations with leading international financial institutions and development banks.

The president noted that Turkmenistan has maintained successful cooperation with the EBRD for many years and instructed Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov to continue efforts to further develop productive cooperation with the bank.

The Cabinet meeting also reviewed several other issues of national importance and adopted corresponding decisions.
