Islamabad, July 24, 2026 – The Europe Today: The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Pakistan, in collaboration with the Pakistan-Cuba Social Forum, inaugurated a photographic exhibition titled “Fidel Por Siempre” (Fidel Forever) to commemorate the centenary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz. The event also featured a display of books highlighting the life, vision, and enduring legacy of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution.
Held at the Cuban Embassy in Islamabad, the inauguration ceremony brought together prominent political leaders, members of the diplomatic corps, intellectuals, and friends of Cuba. Among the distinguished guests were H.E. Atadjan Movlamov, Ambassador of Turkmenistan and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps; Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed; and Syed Usman Tahir, Advisor to the Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi.
Speaking on the occasion, Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed paid tribute to Fidel Castro’s historic leadership and lasting global legacy. He said Fidel’s humanist philosophy continues to shape Cuba’s diplomacy and its commitment to international solidarity. Recalling Cuba’s humanitarian assistance to Pakistan following the devastating 2005 earthquake, as well as the education of Pakistani students and medical professionals in Cuban institutions, he noted that the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Cuba is founded on friendship, humanitarian cooperation, and mutual respect.
Syed Usman Tahir praised the cordial and longstanding ties between Pakistan and Cuba, underscoring the role of cultural diplomacy in fostering greater understanding between nations. He acknowledged Cuba’s humanitarian contributions to Pakistan and emphasized the importance of enhancing cultural exchanges and people-to-people contacts to further strengthen bilateral relations.
Addressing the gathering, the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Pakistan, H.E. Damián Cordero, noted that alongside Fidel Castro’s centenary, Cuba also commemorates National Rebellion Day on July 26, marking the historic uprising led by Fidel Castro and a group of young revolutionaries in pursuit of national sovereignty and social justice.
“The photographic and book exhibition is not merely a reflection on history through images and texts, but a celebration of a living legacy defined by courage, social justice, and unwavering internationalism. It is an encounter with a century of dignity, sovereignty, and solidarity,” Ambassador Cordero said.
The exhibition provided visitors with an opportunity to reflect on Fidel Castro’s life, leadership, and ideals while reaffirming the enduring friendship, mutual respect, and cultural cooperation between Pakistan and Cuba. The event also highlighted the importance of preserving historical memory and promoting cultural dialogue as a means of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
