Jakarta, July 27, 2026 – The Europe Today: Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono and South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun have agreed to accelerate the implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries, reaffirming their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation across key sectors.
The agreement was reached during a bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and Post-Ministerial Conferences (AMM/PMC) in Manila last week.
“Indonesia and the Republic of Korea remain committed to building a partnership that delivers concrete outcomes,” Minister Sugiono said in a statement issued by Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.
During the meeting, the two ministers reviewed follow-up measures stemming from the Indonesian President’s visit to South Korea in April and agreed to expedite the implementation of commitments made by the leaders of both countries, particularly in the fields of defense, energy, and investment.
Minister Cho reaffirmed South Korea’s support for expanding Korean investment in Indonesia’s shipbuilding industry, including the development of shipyards capable of producing large and medium-sized commercial vessels. The initiative is expected to strengthen Indonesia’s domestic maritime industry and enhance bilateral industrial cooperation.
In addition to bilateral economic and strategic relations, the ministers exchanged views on a range of regional and international issues, including the situation in Iran and developments on the Korean Peninsula.
Minister Cho expressed support for Indonesia’s constructive role in promoting de-escalation efforts and encouraging a peaceful resolution to the situation in Iran. Both sides also reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening multilateralism and upholding a rules-based international order.
According to Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting underscored the mutual determination of Indonesia and South Korea to further advance their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and enhance cooperation in ways that contribute to regional peace, stability, and shared prosperity.
