Ashgabat, August 13, 2026 — The Europe Today: Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held a meeting with Serhan Aktoprak, Head of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Kazakhstan and IOM Coordinator for Central Asian countries, to discuss key areas of cooperation in migration and regional development.
During the meeting, the sides identified priority areas for further cooperation, including migration management, protection of migrants’ rights and the development of regional cooperation mechanisms.
The participants emphasized the importance of strengthening coordinated approaches to migration-related issues and enhancing cooperation among countries in Central Asia.
Particular attention was also paid to the importance of incorporating environmental considerations and sustainable development principles into international and regional cooperation concerning the Caspian region.
The meeting underscored the shared interest in promoting effective migration governance while ensuring the protection of migrants’ rights and supporting sustainable development and regional cooperation.
