Hanoi, August 20, 2026 — The Europe Today: General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) Central Committee and President Tô Lâm has underscored Viet Nam’s high appreciation of Mexico’s role and position in Latin America, while expressing the country’s desire to further strengthen cooperation between the two nations and their political parties.
Tô Lâm made the remarks during a meeting in Hanoi on Wednesday with Senator Alberto Anaya Gutiérrez, General Secretary of Mexico’s Labour Party (PT), according to Viet Nam News.
The Vietnamese leader highlighted the growing relationship between the CPV and the PT, noting that the two parties share common interests and objectives in areas including national development, social justice, improving living standards, national independence and sovereignty, as well as international solidarity.
He welcomed the positive development of relations between Viet Nam and Mexico in recent years and spoke highly of Mexico’s important role in Latin America. The Vietnamese side expressed its readiness to work with the Mexican Labour Party to further promote exchanges and cooperation, contributing to stronger bilateral ties.
Senator Anaya Gutiérrez, for his part, expressed his interest in Viet Nam’s experience in personnel training and the development of revolutionary thought, particularly the country’s approach to ensuring continuity in political and institutional development.
The discussions reflected the two sides’ shared interest in expanding theoretical exchanges and strengthening cooperation between the CPV and PT. Earlier, Vietnamese and Mexican officials had also discussed stepping up party-to-party exchanges and personnel training cooperation.
The meeting comes amid broader efforts by Viet Nam and Mexico to deepen political, economic and institutional engagement, with both sides seeking to build on their existing ties and identify new areas of practical cooperation.
Viet Nam News reported that the CPV and PT regard their shared interests and common objectives as an important foundation for continued cooperation, particularly in promoting development, social progress and national sovereignty.
