The Hague, September 5, 2026 – The Europe Today: Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Tom Berendsen in The Hague on September 3, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening multifaceted bilateral relations.
During the meeting, the two ministers expressed satisfaction with the progressive development of Turkmen-Dutch relations and emphasized their mutual interest in expanding cooperation across the political-diplomatic, trade and economic, cultural, and humanitarian spheres.
The sides exchanged views on key issues of the regional and international agenda. The Turkmen side reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of permanent neutrality, the Charter of the United Nations, and the peaceful resolution of international issues through political and diplomatic means.
Discussing trade and economic cooperation, the parties reviewed prospects for expanding business ties in transport and logistics, port infrastructure, agriculture and modern agricultural technologies, energy, high technologies, and industrial cooperation. Particular emphasis was placed on increasing direct contacts between the business communities of Turkmenistan and the Netherlands.
The ministers also highlighted cooperation in education and the training of diplomatic personnel, including longstanding collaboration between Turkmenistan and the Netherlands Institute of International Relations “Clingendael.”
The upcoming World Beauty Championship of Ahal-Teke horses and international equestrian competitions to be held in the Netherlands were also discussed. The Dutch side welcomed the organization of the major international event, which will showcase Ahal-Teke horses and the rich traditions of Turkmen horse breeding.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their readiness to maintain regular dialogue and pursue joint efforts aimed at further strengthening and broadening relations between Turkmenistan and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
