Jakarta, October 10, 2026 – The Europe Today: Indonesia and Australia have concluded their joint military exercise, “Wirra Jaya Ausindo 2026,” in Semarang, Central Java, aimed at enhancing combat capabilities and strengthening bilateral defence cooperation.

The exercise concluded on Friday, October 9, following a series of joint training activities conducted from September 18 to October 9, involving 125 Indonesian Army personnel and 77 Australian Army personnel.

Major Jarrad Dekuyer, commander of the Australian Army contingent, said the exercise provided an important opportunity to strengthen the defence partnership between the two countries.

He said the joint drills were designed to contribute to the security of Indonesia and Australia while enhancing their ability to support each other during crises.

Private Peterson, an Australian Army participant, said he gained valuable experience from training alongside Indonesian military personnel. He highlighted jungle warfare techniques, combat casualty first aid and tactical defence as key areas of learning.

The exercise also included live-fire shooting practice and combat simulations. Peterson praised the enthusiasm and willingness of Indonesian Army personnel to learn and exchange professional knowledge.

Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Rangga Dwika of the Indonesian Army said the joint exercise offered personnel from both countries an opportunity to share expertise and learn from each other.

He expressed hope that the drills would improve the quality of military training in both countries and further strengthen bilateral relations.

The joint exercise focused on combat shooting, military self-defence, first aid and drone operations. Participants also practised rapid reloading, target transitions, pre-flight drone inspections and defensive techniques aimed at neutralising enemy threats.

The exercise underscored the commitment of Indonesia and Australia to enhancing military interoperability, developing professional capabilities and strengthening cooperation in addressing shared security challenges.
