French Bank Crédit Mutuel Arkéa Recovers Part of Funds Lost in Cyber Attack

Crédit Mutuel Arkéa, the French bank hit by a cyber attack that stole over €100 million

Paris, November 7, 2026 – The Europe Today: French regional bank Crédit Mutuel Arkéa, which lost more than €100 million in a cyber attack, has recovered part of the missing funds, a senior official said on Friday, November 6.

Hackers gained access to the bank’s systems and made transfers to other accounts in the attack, which was revealed on Wednesday. Customer funds were not affected.

Part of the Missing Money Already Recovered

Daniel Baal, President of the Confédération Nationale du Crédit Mutuel (CNCM), which oversees the various branches of Crédit Mutuel, told the France 5 television channel that the bank had “already recovered part of [the missing money] today”. He did not say how much had been recovered.

According to the newspaper Le Télégramme, the amount stolen is believed to be €118 million.

Investigation Under Way Into Crédit Mutuel Arkéa Cyber Attack

France’s specialist anti-cybercrime unit is investigating the attack.

“We face cyber attacks every day. Fortunately, the vast majority, almost all of them, are thwarted,” Baal said. “With this particular attack, I cannot say absolutely whether it is French or foreign.”

Wave of Cyber Attacks Across Europe

The incident comes amid a wider wave of cyber attacks in Europe. This week, attacks hit supermarkets in at least nine European countries, and the European Union warned of a deliberate attempt to disrupt food supplies.
