Tashkent, June 19, 2024, The Europe Today: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan has announced with deep sorrow the passing of Vitaly Vasilevich Fen, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to the Republic of Korea. Ambassador Fen passed away today at the age of 77.
“Vitaly Fen was a renowned statesman, sports master, and professional diplomat who dedicated his entire life to serving our country,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in its announcement. “He led the diplomatic mission of Uzbekistan in Seoul for 25 years and significantly contributed to the development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea. His many years of service left an indelible mark on the strengthening of Uzbekistan-South Korea relations.”
Born on October 18, 1947, in the Tashkent region, Vitaly Fen began his distinguished diplomatic career in 1995 as Chargé d’Affaires. With only a brief interruption, he served as the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Uzbekistan in Seoul until his passing.
Throughout his career, Ambassador Fen was honored with several prestigious awards, including the “For Selfless Services” and “Labor Glory” medals from Uzbekistan, as well as the “Gwanghwa” order from South Korea, recognizing his significant contributions to international diplomacy and bilateral relations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its deepest condolences to Ambassador Fen’s family and loved ones, acknowledging his dedication and the lasting impact of his work.
Vitaly Fen will be laid to rest in the city of Fergana, in accordance with Islamic traditions.
